The Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) is a critical problem and there is an alternative and affordable solution that is being ignored.

Hidden hunger is a chronic lack of vitamins and minerals that affects one in three people in the world. The Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) is one of the most severe mineral deficiencies especially for children as it stunts their mental capacity throughout their adult life. The idea for this project came while looking at the IDD geographical distribution. Many countries affected by iodine deficiency have access to the sea (e.g. Vietnam, Turkey, Pakistan). The sea is home to the best natural source of iodine: Seaweeds. Seaweeds are an excellent natural source of iodine and Vietnam is both one of the main producers of seaweeds worldwide and one of the five most IDD affected countries in the world. The link is straightforward. Why are seaweeds not used locally in the fight against IDD? What could be done to integrate this source in the everyday diet in a defined province?
