The SU-EATABLE LIFE project

SU-EATABLE LIFE aims at engaging EU citizens to adopt a sustainable and healthy diet with the long-term objective to contribute to a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption in the EU.

Our food systems account for up to 37% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide and are intensive in terms of water consumption.

The SU-EATABLE LIFE project intends to demonstrate the potential for reducing CO2 emissions and water consumption associated with the adoption of sustainable and healthy diets with an estimated saving of around 5,300 tons of CO2 equivalent and about 2 million cubic meters of water within the three years of the project.

A series of activities are underway in university and company canteens in Italy and the United Kingdom to actively involve European citizens in adopting a healthy and sustainable diet.

The project intends to involve different stakeholders: citizens, schools, universities, municipalities, companies and NGOs.

The LIFE program is the EU financial instrument supporting environmental and climate action projects throughout the EU. Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed more than 4,500 projects. For the 2014-2020 funding period, the LIFE program budget is approximately €3.4 billion.
