In developing countries the obesity and overweight phenomenon has been increasing starting in childhood. The relationship between the development of correct dietary habits

Today more than ever, diet is the area where differences between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the world can be seen, particularly relative to children and adolescents.

In developed countries juvenile obesity and overweight are growing at an alarming rate, a problem that, if not urgently addressed, will contribute even more to the increase of the occurrence of cardiovascular disease and Type 2 Diabetes in adults.

In addition, disturbing data on the average expected lifespan of the younger generations is emerging: for the first time, a decrease in life expectancy is hypothesized if there is no intervention to control and decrease overweight and obesity.

Therefore, integrated actions focusing on children and adolescents, will allow families, schools, and the medical professionals, especially pediatricians, to be active in providing information, education, and practical advice for a healthy diet and correct lifestyle.
