THE BARILLA FOUNDATION PRESENTS THE 9TH INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON FOOD AND NUTRITION

Education, Best Practices and Concrete Solutions: a roadmap of commitments, in collaboration with UN SDSN, for sustainable development


• Riccardo Valentini, member of the Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change – IPCC, Nobel Peace Laureate 2007, Raj Patel, Research Professor, Writer and Activist are few of the international experts which will take part to the BCFN International Forum on Food and Nutrition on November 27-28 at Milan's Pirelli HangarBicocca, working to transform the global food system

• Introducing the new report on 'Food and City': a first mapping of the most sustainable food policies in the world's greatest cities

• The Food Sustainability Index extends to 33 new countries, with a focus on the EU and Africa

• Getting ready for Su-Eatable life, the new project to reduce CO2 emissions and water footprints linked to food consumption




Milan, October 11, 2018 – After touring Brussels (in June) and New York (September), the Forum returns to Milan to promote international dialog across science, politics and society, and to share evidence, scientific data and best practices to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN's Agenda 2030. 

Marc Buckley, one of the fathers of the concept of global sustainability, and Riccardo Valentini. Raj Patel, English writer, activist and academic, as well as a leading expert on the global food crisis, and Rita Kimani, one of the United Nations' Young Leader for the SDGs and CEO of Farmdrive Kenya, are some of the experts and opinion-makers participate to the 9th International Forum on Food and Nutrition. The event will be held on 27 and 28 November at the Pirelli HangarBicocca, in Milan, and organized by the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation.

THIRD EDITION OF THE FOOD SUSTAINABILITY INDEX: 67 COUNTRIES AND NEW INDICATORS IN LINE WITH THE SDGs

BCFN and The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) double their efforts. In addition to the 34 countries mapped in 2017 (representing 85% of global GDP and two thirds of the world's population), 33 more were researched, taking the total to 67. The study will include the remaining EU28 countries as well as 14 new countries in Africa.

FOOD AND CITY: A STUDY MAPPING CURRENT POLICIES MAKING OUR FOOD SYSTEMS SUSTAINABLE

Over 50% of the world’s population lives in cities, and in 2050 this will increase to 80%. Current food systems cannot deal with this urbanization. BCFN and MUFPP (Milan Urban Food Policy Pact) present a new study 'Food and City', an analysis of the role that cities play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The research focuses on seven cities analyzed: New York, Rio de Janeiro, Milan, Cape Town, Tel Aviv, Seoul and Sidney.

SU-EATABLE LIFE: EATING WELL HELPS REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT 

Sustainable and healthy eating could save up to 2900g of CO2 equivalent per person per day, or 535 Mt of CO2 equivalent and up to 200 billion cubic meters of water per year, based on Europe’s entire population. The Su-Eatable Life project, which is financed every three years by the European Commission, was set up to reduce CO2 emissions and water footprint linked to food consumption in Europe, by working on company and university cafeterias. BCFN will be the leading partner of this European project, working alongside Greenapes, Wageninen University and the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Through a number of experiments at Universities and company cafeterias, and an easy-to-use information system, Su-Eatable Life aims to show that it is possible to bring EU citizens to change their diets in order to benefit  our health and environment.
