In September 2015, 80 young researchers came to Parma from all around the world in order to tackle the three food paradoxes identified by the BCFN Foundation.
The food paradoxes represent the three key challenges in the food system: the relationship between obesity and malnutrition, the use of natural resources and food waste. These are unsustainable situations which need to be resolved as soon as possible to guarantee everyone a dependable access to food.
Following two days of work, the skills and personal experience of the young researchers from the BCFN Foundation led to the creation of the Youth Manifesto: an appeal to policy makers to finally put an end to the current paradoxes to create a new sustainable food system.
The draft of the Youth Manifesto, drawn up by young researchers at the BCFN Foundation, was presented during Expo Milano 2015 to the Minister of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina, representatives of various countries in their respective stands and many European institutions in attendance at the Expo.
This is a practical step to involve political stakeholders and boost the visibility of the issues related to food sustainability, bringing about a more well-informed approach to the tackling the problems.
For the drafting of the Youth Manifesto, the young researchers from the BCFN Foundation sought advice from national and international experts, who offered their own experience to inspire and guide the work in Parma.
