The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation(BCFN) was founded in 2009 with the aim of analyzing the major issues related to food and nutrition in the world.

In 2013 within the 5th International Forum BCFN, were asked to civil society to participate in the definition of the Protocol of Milan.

The "Protocol of Milan" is therefore a civil movement that unify citizens and institutions to address the problem of food sustainability with three goals:
- Promoting healthy lifestyles and fight obesity
- Promoting sustainable agriculture
- Reducing food waste by 50% by the year 2020

The final version of the Protocol of Milan will be presented at Expo Milano 2015.

In 2014 BCFN has become foundation and consolidated its efforts in communicating and finding practical solutions to the issues of global supply and nutrition.
