The use of an environmental-friendly waste management technique could assist farmers in translating the Pollution story into sustainable livelihood.

Oil spillage is one of the environmental challenges ravaging agricultural soils. This affects the livelihood of farmers in the oil producing communities in Nigeria. This project will assess the effects of pawpaw seed wastes (an environmental nuisance) and moringa seeds in enhancing soil remediation, crop yield and biogas production under cowpea cultivation. Field experiments in randomized complete block design (RCBD) will be used to assess the treatments on an oil polluted site. The Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) will be used to determine the effects of moringa seed and pawpaw seed powders on soil properties, cowpea yield, and biogas production. These plant materials may reduce the cost and hazards associated with chemical and biological methods of soil remediation. The adaptation of this technique may be economical, readily available and practical means for enhancing environmental quality and energy production, while improving crop yield and farmers’ livelihoods.
