The CDC Project is premised on the concept of sustainable development and intended to highlight the necessity of a green shift of dietary habits. Science has broadly shown that meat-intensive diets are, in a world of exponential population growth, a decisive cause for climate change and global environmental degradation. The Project aims at analysing, from an international and European Union law perspective, the feasibility of top-down measures that might enable dietary changes and decrease meat consumption. Anyhow, measures such the introduction of a “meat” tax, a change in contracts regulating public services, labelling/advertisement regulations, will probably encounter some obstacles surging from market-oriented legal commitments imposed by international and regional legal regimes. The objective of the Project is hence to identify, through an international and EU law analysis, the viability of those policy developments that may have an impact on the mitigation of climate change.
