On the occasion of the World Food Day, celebrated every year on October 16, the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition indicates its priorities for inclusion in the international agenda, on the basis of the recommendations to world leaders and sent by the BCFN on the occasion of its 5 webinars organized in 2011: guarantee sufficient food to the billion undernourished people in the world, put a stop to the phenomenon of land grabbing and preserve the health of the planet and the wellbeing of its populations.
CHILDHOOD OBESITY ALERT ONLY 1% OF CHILDREN EAT PROPERLY
The marked increase in childhood obesity recorded by the WHO, a phenomenon that also extends into developing countries, represents a real emergency for which an immediate solution must be found. Children must follow healthy eating habits from a young age in order to prevent the onset of such problems as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity in adulthood. Speaking on these issues will be Claudio Maffeis, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Verona, John T. Cook, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University and, via connection with the United States, Robert Lustig, Director of the Weight Assessment for Teen and Child Health (WATCH) program at the University of California, San Francisco, during a webinar organized by the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition that will take place in Milan, tomorrow, October 11 at 5 pm and will be broadcast in live-streaming on the website www.barillacfn.com
