Fischler holds the position of Directeur de Recherche CNRS [Director of Research] at the National Research Agency in France and is head of the Edgar Morin Center. He is a member of the management committee of the National French Program on Nutrition and Health, the consulting group of experts on the communication risks associated with the food chain at the EFSA, and the Conseil stratégique de l’agriculture et de l’agro-industrie durables (CSAAD), and participates in the executive committee of the European Sociological Association.
In the mid 1970’s, he explored the structure and function of the culinary tradition, taste and preferences, and body image, as well as the evolution of these areas throughout time and the changing spatial context.
Fischler has published approximately 230 articles on food and nutrition, as well as various books, in addition to being editor of various publications.
