OBESITY IN A WORLD OF MALNUTRITION
THE PARADOXES OF GLOBALIZATION: FOOD EXCESS
Nearly one billion people worldwide suffer from hunger, but the same number of people find themselves facing the often dramatic consequences of the opposite problem - excess food. Overweight and obesity are starting to become the epidemics of the future, and they cause serious consequences for society.
What measures can be enacted now to prevent the spread of this phenomenon? Can education and information play a central role along with science and government policies?

Worldwide, there are 155 million overweight or obese school‐age children, or one out of every ten. Two to three percent of children aged 5 to 17, or 30‐45 million, are obese. The consequences on the health and the social development of an entire generation are worrisome.
What initiatives have been launched to prevent and treat childhood obesity? What are the results in industrialized and emerging countries?

THE RIGHT OF FOOD FOR ALL: THE ROLE OF FOOD PRICES
HOW DOES FOOD PRICES VOLATILITY IMPACT ON FOOD ACCESS?
Chair: Alessandra Galloni – Italy Bureau Chief, Wall Street Journal, USA
The price volatility of raw materials impacts the potential for access to food for all, contributing to undernourishment and malnutrition worldwide.
In addition to being an economic topic, it is also an ethical question: what are the factors impacting on food prices, how is volatility passed along the agrifood production chain, and what tools can manage it?

CASE STUDIES FOR A
SUSTAINABLE AGRI-FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN
Chair: Alessandra Galloni – Italy Bureau Chief, Wall Street Journal, USA
The traditional methods used to manage the agrifood production chain can no longer be considered effective to guarantee sustainable development in the future.
The Green Economy may be the solution, in developed countries ‐ where it appears necessary for further development; in developing countries, it may be a path to food security.
We compare case studies of different sustainable production chains.

THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF FOOD WASTE
Over 30% of total agricultural production destined for human consumption is wasted along the entire agrifood production chain, from production to household consumption.
What are the impacts, both ethical and economic, of this phenomenon? In light of the growing share of the world's population that is undernourished, how can food waste be tolerated?
