On a worldwide level, between the years 1950-2010, the elderly population has grown at an average annual rate of 13% and it is estimated that in 2050 the over-65 population will be 1.9 billion people. This increase in the elderly population will involve significant changes in the world’s social, cultural and economic frameworks. The world is, therefore, faced with a challenge: how to take advantage of the improved state of health of senior citizens, thanks to research and progress?
