The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition, under the patronage of Mairead McGuinness, Member of the European Parliament, invites you to an open debate on food security.
Food security – access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food supply – is now a key political concern both at EU and global level. Alongside the sustained rise of food prices, we have recently seen a sharp increase in the volatility of prices due to multi-faceted phenomena which the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition addresses in its latest publication on the topic of ‘Food security: new geopolitical and economic challenges’.
The workshop will focus on the economic and political conditions impacting food prices, and discuss how the EU can contribute to find solutions for a better functioning of food markets and the political governance instruments to guarantee the accessibility, sustainability and quality of the food we eat
Speakers include: - Mairead McGuinness, Member of the European Parliament and Member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development - Mario Monti, Economist and President of Bocconi University, Milan - Antonio Preto, Head of the Cabinet of Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the European Commission - Jo Swinnen, Director, LICOS Centre for Institutions and Economic Performance, University of Leuven (KUL); Senior Research Fellow, Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS); President-elect, International Association of Agricultural Economists - Moderated by Jacki Davis, Journalist
