BARILLA FORUM: THE FIRST PARTICIPANTS
Haseltine, Becker, Shiva, among the confirmations
The panels of the 2009 International Forum are taking shape. The event is scheduled in Rome on December 3, at which representatives of the institutions and international experts from the world of science, economics and culture will confront each other on the recommendations emerging from a year of work by the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition and on the results of the work performed with the contribution of the members of its Advisory Board. The program of the forum will include a series of panel discussions on themes having to do with the areas studied.
One of the first to confirm was William Haseltine, internationally famous geneticist, President of the W. A. Haseltine Foundation for Medical Sciences and the Arts, who will participate in the sessions devoted to health. In the economic sphere, the Nobel prizewinner Gary Becker of the University of Chicago is also expected. The panel devoted to the relationship between food and sustainability will include Vandana Shiva, Director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Natural Resource Policy and Carlo Carraro of the University of Venice. A discussion of the links between food and culture, will feature Massimo Montanari, Director of the Master Program in the History and Culture of Food from the University of Bologna.
